Isabella Lewis
Painter
Isabella Lewis is a visual artist based in South Florida. She is now completing her final year at Florida Atlantic University, where she will receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Isabella’s current work explores themes of psychological and subconscious imagery. Her paintings and drawings, rich in figurative elements, create a surreal atmosphere that invites viewers to reflect on the depths of their own consciousness. Over time, her work has shifted to uncover the hidden truths framed within darker, more complex imagery. She employs oil paint and ink drawing mediums to bring these ideas to life, creating art that invites a deeper examination of the
unknown and the unseen.

Artist Statment
Isabella’s work centers on the exploration of inner psychological reality and the phenomenon of consciousness. Through her paintings, she documents the shifting experiences of her mind in various altered states. Drawing inspiration from methods such as the paranoiac-critical approach, she broadens this framework to encompass all forms of imagery that arise within the mind’s eye. Her experience of hyperphantasia—the ability to visualize with extraordinary vividness—serves as the foundation of her practice, providing primary reference material for her compositions. The resulting works offer a glimpse into her mental landscape and, by extension, the way she experiences reality. Formally, Isabella’s practice continues traditions of classical painting, including glazing, scumbling, impasto, and figurative representation. Yet her unique approach emerges in her gothic aesthetic sensibilities and her deliberate distortion of reality through abstract mark-making. Her work becomes a deeply personal exploration of the psyche and the emotive nature of consciousness.
