Carson Williams

Sculptor

Carson Williams’ works investigate the methods, structures, and practices that humans utilize to create, amalgamate, and appropriate their identities. Recently, his work has focused upon the digital world and its role in shaping human identity as well as the cultural, philosophical, and artistic implications of digital technologies in the 21st century. These works embrace a philosophy of intersubjectivity, weaving together the perceived dichotomies of human vs nature and digital vs physical through a wide variety of materials and presentation methods. His usage of 3D scanning methods, mixed media digital/sculptural installations and moldmaking highlights the complex and highly integrated nature of human identity and relationships in the digital, contemporary era. The main project of his work is ultimately an attempt to quantify the nuances within the processes of human identification and self-knowledge, which is explored by creating otherworldly and surrealistic experiences that hyperbolize the questions raised in everyday life.
