Anna Bonito

Ceramicist

Anna Bonito is an artist based in Southeast Florida pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Florida Atlantic University with a concentration in ceramics. Anna's interest in art started before she can remember, where she was always busy creating from a young age. in 2011, Anna was introduced to the ceramic arts, which she took a special interest in until pursuing her first bachelor's degree. Following her first degree, she was reintroduced to ceramics and rediscovered her passion, while making room for painting, the first medium she loved as a child. Anna was the Vice President of the Ceramics Guild of FAU from 2024 to 2025 and has taught at several studios, including the Boca Raton Museum of Art School.
Influenced by artists such as Sara Catapano, Francis Bacon, and Patricia Piccinini, Anna's work dwells in uneasy space where beauty brushes up against disgust. By manipulating surface and form, Anna creates objects that provoke a visceral reaction, urging viewers to face what they instinctively turn away from.

Artist Statement

My work explores the tension between attraction and repulsion through the lens of the
abject, influenced by Julia Kristeva’s Powers of Horror: An Essay on Abjection. I use clay as
both metaphor and medium, manipulating its surface to reveal traces of touch, distortion,
and decay. Through an intensive material process at every stage of the clay, I create work
inspired by bodily functions and organic forms that evoke both desire and discomfort,
inviting viewers to confront what they would rather deny: our mortality, our animalistic
nature, and the fragile connection between self and other.
