Daniela Mogollon
GRAPHIC DESIGNER
I create work through a clothing brand that explores the slow disappearance of South Florida’s cultural and visual identity. I use graphic design, photography, and apparel to highlight the region’s visual language, including Art Deco architecture, small businesses, tropical landscapes, and the influence of Latin and Caribbean cultures. As development reshapes South Florida, many of these spaces and styles are being replaced by uniform, modern environments that erase the area’s character.
My project approaches this loss through the language of mourning. I use visual references associated with funerals and memorials—such as programs, dark tones, and symbolic objects—to treat the changing visual identity of South Florida as something that is disappearing, or already gone.
My process begins with photographing and researching South Florida’s history and visual culture. I compile these materials into a handmade archival book that documents the region’s identity. I then transform these images into graphics that appear on clothing and printed materials.
