STUDIO ART

My work centers on oil painting and charcoal drawing, drawn from scenes I encounter in everyday life and while traveling. Most of these moments are fairly ordinary, but something about a place, a subject, or the way light settles into a space holds my attention. I’m less interested in telling a specific story and more focused on preserving that initial sense of presence.

The work often begins with photographs I take, but it gradually shifts away from direct observation. In painting, color becomes a means of shaping mood, often departing from what was originally there. In drawing, charcoal allows for a more reduced and direct approach, where contrast and mark-making guide the viewer’s focus.

What matters most to me is creating a sense of stillness. The figures, animals, and spaces in my work are not meant to carry a narrative but to exist within a quiet, contained moment. By isolating and reworking these scenes, I try to hold onto something that might otherwise pass unnoticed and give it just enough presence for someone else to pause and look a little longer.
