Josiah Ritzer
GRAPHIC DESIGNER
My work is primarily experimental with exploratory roots in production and user
experience. I am a graphic designer but for this exhibit I aimed to delve deeper into
exploring human interaction through the creation of multiple mixed media pieces, using
animation, package design, and found objects to explore my central theme, “Beastification of self”.
“Beastification of self” aims to tell the visual story of how an “idea / train of thought” can
take root in the mind as something small and slowly grow over time into something a lot larger
with damaging personal and social effects. All of my works in this exhibit center around the
retelling of an aspect of a fictional character's life as they slowly lose sight of themselves and
begin to hurt those around them before finally consuming themselves.
Ultimately my goal with this body of work is to inspire internal reflection. My aim is not
to point the finger and tell the viewer what they should think, but rather encourage them to be
their own mental auditor, and be wary of what may be lurking in their own mental cabinets.
